Want a beautiful lawn and help you save money?

Sounds just like the best of both worlds, but it’s completely possible.  How?  By analyzing your soil.  When you know what kind of soil you have, you don’t waste money on buying the wrong fertilizers and grass seed.  Testing your dirt sounds somewhat intimidating to the average homeowner, but it isn’t.  Here is how to test your soil, quickly and easily.

Step 1 – Get Soil Sample Boxes

Testing soil immediately brings to mind a:

This isn’t how it’s completed.  Step one is to visit the regional extension office.  To find your regional extension office, search online or look in the yellow pages.  Let them know you want to test your soil, and they’ll put you up with the soil sample boxes, forms, and instructions.  Get much more to know by visiting on this site – Alpha Environmental.

Step 2 – Gather Supplies

Not so tricky so far… right?  Once you’re home, gather your resources.  All you’ll need is a bucket and shovel.  You do need to be certain the bucket and shovel are clean.  You don’t want dirt from another place to get on your samples and give you the incorrect test results.

Also, don’t use tools with metal, brass, or bronze.  These compounds will contaminate your soil sample also.

Step 3 – Gather Soil Samples

Now it’s time to gather your own samples.  1 thing you want to be sure about is where you collect your samples.  If you’d like a gorgeous front lawn, collect your dirt from the front lawn.  Don’t collect your dirt from the backyard or garden.  Soil may fluctuate even on a tiny suburban lot.

If you want to save some time and find out what type of soil you have at front and back yard in addition to the backyard, do different samples.  This way, you’ll know just what each region needs to perform in how that you desire.

Using your spade, place the dirt in the bucket and scoop the dirt to the boxes to the sample.  Each box must be 2/3 full or fill into the line if there’s one on your particular sample box.  As you fill every box, be sure and label the box using a title that indicates where the sample has been taken.

Step 4 – Fill out the Forms

Your soil sample kit will come with some forms.  These forms will inform the extension office that which you desire the dirt tested for – lime and fertilizer requirements or nutritional issues.  You will also be asked what type of plant material has been growing from the sample and what kind you want to grow there.

Step 5 – Be Patient!

Once you return your soil samples into the local extension office, then it will take about one week to receive the results.  Your results will let you know what your soil lacks in nutrients, what type of fertilizer you’ll need, and how much lime to apply to your soil.

Soil tests are cheap

They do require a small amount of time, finding the extension office, getting your supplies, collecting the soil samples and returning the samples, but the effort is worth it.  As soon as you receive your results, you’ll know just what your lawn needs to develop a beautiful lawn, plants, shrubs lawn and you’ll no more throw money away.
